Clinical Pharmacists for VGH Gozo General Hospital

Vitals Global Healthcare is recruiting Clinical Pharmacists on a part-time and / or full-time basis to join the VGH Gozo General Hospital Pharmacy team. Reporting to the Head of Pharmaceutical Services, the successful candidates will be responsible for the promotion of safe, rational and cost-effective drug therapy to the inpatients of Gozo General Hospital.  General duties include:

  • Clinical pharmacist duties including medication reconciliation, medication review, adverse drug reaction management and reporting, clinical review, assisting in the prescribing decisions, therapeutic drug monitoring and participation in multidisciplinary ward rounds and meetings;
  • Ensuring compliance with Hospital Formulary;
  • Ensuring that the prescribing of all medications conforms to legal and Hospital requirements;
  • Liaising with medical, nursing and other health professionals to provide drug information and promote rational drug therapy;
  • Counselling patients on their drug use, when appropriate. Prepare a Drug Medication Profile and provide consumer medicines information when necessary to ensure continuity of care;
  • Develop and participate in education and training programs.

The successful candidates must:

  • Be registered as a Pharmacist with the Pharmacy Council of Malta;
  • Have completed, or is progressing towards completion, of postgraduate study relevant to Hospital pharmacy practice, and ideally clinical pharmacy;
  • Demonstrate oral and written communication skills, and an ability to provide drug information to health-care professionals and patients;
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuing education and maintenance of professional competence;
  • Demonstrate organisational skills to prioritise and coordinate clinical workload together with a high level of initiative and self-motivation;
  • Demonstrate ability to contribute to, and work as part of, the healthcare team at ward and departmental levels.
