Phlebotomist [closed]

Vitals Global Healthcare is recruiting a Phlebotomist on a full-time basis to join the VGH Karin Grech Hospital and VGH St. Luke’s Hospital team. Reporting to the Chief Nursing Manager, the candidate will be responsible for the contribution to the provision of Phlebotomy services to the patients and clinical areas of the VGH Karin Grech Hospital and VGH St. Luke’s Hospital.


General duties include:

  • Collection of blood from patients primarily by performing venepuncture
  • Collection of minute quantities of blood from patients using finger stick or heel stick or from scalp using butterfly needles
  • Collection and/or testing of urine and/or other body fluid samples including swabs and skin scrapes
  • Proper handling of blood and other body fluid samples including the safe transport of such samples to the laboratory for further testing
  • Proper interaction with patients and relatives
  • Follow instructions and directions from and support doctors, nurses and other health care staff in matters related to collection of blood and body fluids from patients
  • Participation in the development of the Phlebotomy service in the Hospital according to established protocols


The successful candidates must:

  • Be in possession of an MCAST BTEC Diploma in Health and Social Care or an appropriate, recognized, comparable qualification at MQF Level 3 or higher
  • Ideally have experience as a Phlebotomist
  • Be able to perform duties to a high and consistent level of output to meet deadlines under minimum supervision
  • Have a good-eye for detail
  • Be a team player and good communicator (verbal and written)
  • Be computer literate
  • Have a flexible and can-do attitude.
